NIT Tournament action on Monday night and we will see the Washington Huskies travel to San Diego, California top take on the San Diego State Aztecs. ESPN2 will carry this game, which has a start time of 11:30 pm EST.
Current betting odds for this game have the Aztecs listed as 5 point favorites, while the total has been set at 148.
The Washington Huskies finished their season just 2-6 down the stretch of the regular season, but following their 107-102 win over Long Beach State in the opening round of the NIT Tournament, they have now won three of their last four games. The Huskies were a solid home team this year, but they went just 3-6 on the road. Washington is 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games following an ATS loss and they are 4-0 ATS the last 4 in this series. This is not really a deep team as they play about seven players with regularity, with those players all averaging at least 6.3 ppg. Andrew Andrews is one of the best players in the league and leads the team with 21.1 ppg, while Dejounte Murray is 2nd at 16.0 ppg and leads the team in rebounding at 5.9 rpg. Marquese Chriss rounds out the double digit scorers on the team with 13.6 ppg. The Huskies are not a great shooting team as they rank 242nd in shooting overall and 245th from long range, but they are also 72nd in free throw shooting and 6th in scoring, putting up 84.1 ppg. On defense the Huskies are bad as they have allowed 80.5 ppg, which is 334th in the nation, but they are also 145th in defensive FG% and 74th at defending the 3-ball. Washington is 21st in the nation in rebounding, while they commit 13.9 turnovers per game (294th) and force 16.3 turnovers per game (6th).
The San Diego State Aztecs had a solid season, but they lost in the finals of the MWC Tournament and that kept them from making it to the Big Dance. San Diego State comes in off an easy 79-55 win over IPFW in the first round and they are now 26-9 overall, including 14-4 at home. The Aztecs are 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 games following a straight up win of more than 20 points, but also 1-6 ATS in their last 7 when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game. SDSU is led by their amazing defense that comes in ranked 3rd in the nation in points allowed, giving up just 60.1 ppg, while also ranking 1st in defensive FG% overall and 6th in 3-point defense. This will be fun to watch this defense take on the high octane Huskies. On offense the Aztecs are led by Trey Kell, who averages 12.5 ppg, while leading the team in rebounding is Winston Shepard at 6.5 rpg and he also chips in with 11.1 ppg, which is 3rd on the team. Also averaging in double figures for the Aztecs is Jeremy Hemsley, who averages 12.3 ppg. Over all the Aztecs come in ranked 277th in scoring, putting up just 68.4 ppg, while also ranking 260th in shooting overall, 284th from long range and 219th at the charity stripe. SDSU is 51st in the nation in rebounding, while they commit 12.6 turnovers per game (170th) and force 12.3 turnovers per game (198th).
