Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs South Carolina Gamecocks NIT Tournament Betting Preview & Odds

NIT Tournament action on Monday night and we will see the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets take on the South Carolina Gamecocks, which will be played at Colonial Life Arena, Columbia in South Carolina. ESPN will carry this game, which has a start time of 9:00 pm EST.

Current betting odds for this game have the Gamecocks listed as 4 point favorites, while the total has been set at 146.
The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets come in off a nice 81-62 rout of the Houston Cougars in the first round of the NIT Tournament, but that game was at home where they are 14-5 on the year now, compared to going just 4-7 on the road. The Jackets have now won 7 of their last 9 games and they have gone 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. Georgia Tech has just four players that average more than 4.9 ppg on the year and they are led by Marcus Georges-Hunt, who averages 16.7 ppg and put up 19 in the win over Houston. Charles Mitchell leads the team in rebounding at 9.7 rpg, while chipping in with 10.0 ppg. Adam Smith had 20 points vs the Cougars and is 2nd on the team in scoring at 15.1 ppg, while Nick Jacobs rounds out the double digit scorers at 10.6 ppg. Tech enters the game ranked 167th in the nation in scoring, putting up 73.5 ppg,  while also ranking 139th in shooting overall, 138th from long range and 96th from the charity stripe. On defense they have been average at best as they come in ranked 150th in points allowed, giving up 70.8 ppg, while also ranking 223rd defensive FG% overall, and 40th in 3-point defense. The Jackets are 41st in the nation in rebounding, while they commit just 11.1 turnovers per game (42nd) and force just 9.9 turnovers per game (338th).

The South Carolina Gamecocks have had a fine year as they come in at 25-8 overall, including 16-2 at home, but it just wasn’t enough to reach their first NCAA Tournament since 2004. They took care of High Point in their opening round of the NIT Tournament by a score of 88-66, covering the 15.5 point spread in the process. The Gamecocks are now 11-4 ATS at home 21-5 ATS in their last 26 non-conference games, but they are also just 4-9 ATS in their last 13 vs. the Atlantic Coast. South Carolina has 7 players that put up at least 5.4 ppg, with Michael Carrera leading the way at 14.4 ppg, while also leading the team in rebounding at 7.8 rpg He had 12 points and 11 boards vs High Point. Laimonas Chatkevicius led the team in that win with 30 points and he now averages 10.2 ppg on the year. Sindarius Thornwell (13.6 ppg),  Duane Notice (10.9 ppg) and Mindaugas Kacinas (10.1 ppg) round out the double digit scorers on the team. SC comes in ranked ranked 98th in the nation in scoring, putting up 76.5 ppg, but they are not a good shooting team as they also rank 210th in shooting overall, 149th from long range and 248th from the charity stripe. On defense they have been solid as they come in ranked 101st in points allowed, giving up 68.9 ppg, while also ranking 15th defensive FG% overall, and 221st in 3-point defense. The Gamecocks are 13th in the nation in rebounding, while they commit 13.7 turnovers per game (277th) and force 14.7 turnovers per game (29th).
