Critical game for the Nationals after dropping 6-5 decision to the visiting Padres, who have been paying dividends to their backers recently.  In the capital Thursday, San Diego will send RH Cashner to the bump to challenge young RH Ross for Washington.  Cashner (5-12) is coming off a winning home outing, but throws tonight in a road challenge where he has exhibited a lack of patience and poor pitch selection.  In fact, since June the RH has put together a 0-3 record with 5.44 ERA on foreign soil.  Further, Cashner has not done well vs. Nats carrying a horrid 0-3 record and 4.95 ERA.  Young hurler Joe Ross (4-5) gets the call for Washington, laying a sizable price.  However, Washington is 38-14 in this price range.  Plus Ross is 3-1 of late at home with a 1.69 ERA. Our umpire stat of the day has the home team 5-0 with Harvey Wendelstedt calling balls and strikes in San Diego games…WASHINGTON!
