Royals LH Jason Vargas (8-4, 3.31 ERA) vs. Athletics LH Jon Lester (10-7, 2.52)
 
Jon Lester the As newly acquired hurler via a trade with the Boston Red Sox is pitching with alot of rest today. He last started on  July 25 as the Red Sox scratched him from his scheduled start because of the pending trade. He has garnered a very stingy 1.07 ERA over his L/8 outings. The southpaw threw eight shutout innings allowing just four hits  while beating Kansas City on July 20 . He now stands at 7-3 along  with a very stingy 1.43 ERA in 11 career starts against the Royals. Im betting he will be motivated and in top form again today. Meanwhile, his pitching opponent, Vargas returns from the disabled list after missing more than three weeks with an appendectomy. His last start came on July 8, a 4-3 loss to the Rays, in which he allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings.Vargas was very consistent this season as is evident by allowing two or fewer runs in seven of nine starts prior to the injury and is a good bet to be solid again. The viability of the pitching matchup and the ability of both bullpens here points to this being  a low scoring affair.
